IPS Week 3!

Week 3 of my photography class has come to a close and I am learning more about my camera every time I pick it up. This week the focus was on depth and depth of field. Depth is all about making the world look 3D on a 2D surface. Obviously we see pictures in 2D but the world we take the pictures of is 3D. There are a few factors to keep in mind when doing this and two of them are to have repeating objects moving away from the camera and lines moving away from the camera. Depth of field is about how much of the frame is in focus. The photographer has control over that and it is so interesting to learn how to use it!

These two photos are very much the same but if you notice that background you will see that in the first photo the background is quite blurry. In the second photo the background is clearer. This depth of field. The first photo has a shallower depth of field than the second.
This photo shows a very shallow depth of field.

Again these two photos are very similar but the amount of the picture that is in focus is different.

These photos show depth. In each of them you will see certain objects repeating away from the camera. In most of them you should also see clear lines leading away from the camera as well.

  2. Looking back now...these pictures are so void of meaning. I'm really glad and thankful to have learned so much from the IPS course!
